Native Harlemite Neal Shoemaker, started Harlem Heritage
Tours in 1998, after realizing the opportunity that tourism offers
Harlem to preserve its culture and contribute to the development of
the local economy. All tours and events are conducted by
those who were actually born and raised in Harlem. We invite you not only to learn about and celebrate
Harlem's past, but also to participate with us in the cultural and
economic renaissance taking hold presently in the community. Harlem
is perceived by many to be a community filled with urban-despair,
deprivation and crime. The reality is that Harlem consists of
beautiful people/architecture and is much safer than portrayed in
the media. We take great pleasure in showing friends from all over
the world the reality of our home. We feel that every time we
express the beautiful culture of our home with visitors from all
over the world, we work to preserve our culture. Our customers have
expressed to us that they appreciate authentic experiences when they
travel to Harlem. Tourists want to see the community through the
eyes of those who are from Harlem. Creating authentic experiences
is the company's main goal, therefore all tours are conducted by
those who actually live and work in the community. Come and get
an insider's view of Harlem.
Tour the historic streets of America's African-American capital,
visit cultural institutions, enjoy jazz and gospel, dine on
delicious soul food and shop at one of Harlem's many outlets.
Harlem is centrally located in Manhattan, and easy to get to from
practically anywhere in the Tri-State area, especially the downtown
Manhattan hotel scene. So come to Harlem and
FEEL THE CULTURE.
