Harlem Filmmaker Bill Miles is the producer and director of the I Remember Harlem series + 10 other documentaries.  Bill’s passion for telling the story of Harlem is contagious and he needs to celebrated for his efforts.  Parts 3 and 4 explores the period from the late 1930’s – the 1980’s.

On the Shoulders of Giants, produced by Kareem abdul Jabbar tells the story of pioneering basketball players who played during a time preceding the NBA and ABA when Black were considered to be inferior athletes. The Real Rucker Park Legends

Since 1948 the Rucker Basketball Tournament has been one of the premiere urban street basketball leagues in America. Hughes’ Dream Harlem

Hughes’ Dream Harlem presents a vision of the esteemed poet in present-day Harlem and makes an important case for Hughes’ impact on hip-hop and the spoken-word community. This multi-layered documentary includes roundtable discussions of his contributions and a tour of Hughes’ Harlem hang-outs. The distinguished actor/activist Ossie Davis offers the narration in his soulful baritone, while his wife and collaborator, the renowned Ruby Dee, reflects on Hughes’ life with such notable personalities as poet Sonia Sanchez – a must see for all fans of 1920’s Harlem.

Soldiers Without Swords.

The Black Press: Soldiers Without Swords is the first film to chronicle the history of the Black press, including its central role in the construction of modern African American identity. It recounts the largely forgotten stories of generations of Black journalists who risked life and livelihood so African Americans could represent themselves in their own words and images = telling our story.

Malcolm X Mix Tape Celebration

Cotton Comes To Harlem

Ossie Davis, Film Actor, Stage Performer, Director and Humanitarian made his directorial debut with this successful black action movie in 1970.  Wonderfully shot, this film has great street scenes of 1970’s Harlem.
