Hip Hop started in
the Bronx in the
early 1970's and has since blossomed into a global phenomenon
influencing social, political and economic developments worldwide.
Amidst the explosion the old school pioneers and authentic Hip-Hop
culture has been overlooked. "The Roots of Hip Hop Multimedia Bus
Tour"
travels to the neighborhoods where Hip Hop originated in the Bronx,
Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. Hip-Hop historian Greg Nice and friends will break down
the four genres of Hip Hop: Graffiti, DJ, MC and Dancing.
Multimedia elements are going to have the bus rocking with old
school history and entertainment.
The
“Roots of Hip Hop Tour” be conducted once a month for the general
public, but you can request a private tour for your group by calling
212 280-7888 or email
loveharlem@aol.com.
Reservations required for all tours. |

The “Roots of Hip Hop Multimedia Bus Tour” includes the following:
-
Visits to over 25
sights associated with Hip Hop culture such as the “Harlem World
Entertainment Complex”. In 1977 New York City experienced an
electrical city wide black-out that caused havoc on many
businesses including a Woolworth’s outlet in Harlem. The
Woolworth’s location was converted into an entertainment venue
called “Harlem World” for short and served as the arena for many
landmark Hip Hop entertainment battles, such the 1981 face
off that pitted the “Cold Crush Brothers against the “Fantastic
Romantic”. This was one of the first structured hip hop battles -
come with us and visit the sight and listen to an authentic
recording of the Hip Hop throw down – and you judge how won the
battle.
-
50 minutes of
archival Hip Hop film footage from back in the day – broken down
to be presented incrementally at applicable Hip Hop sights. Rare
prints and audio recordings also presented.
-
Pioneering Hip
Hop icons such as Grand Wizard Theodore
will board the bus and explain in an intimate fashion the societal
forces that were in place at the time they were innovating what
has become a multi billion dollar industry.
-
Soul food meal at
Harlem restaurant.
-
Curriculum
development – Harlem Heritage Tours has designed a special version
of the “Roots of Hip Hop Multimedia Bus Tour” that adheres to
educational curriculums and learning standards for many school
districts throughout the country – Hip Hop is not just a part of
entertainment history, it’s a part of American History.
